We had a gas leak yesterday. I thought it was a gas leak because of the strong chemical smell and beeping gas detector. It smelled more like paint, but how should I know what the gas smells here, right? I still can't understand why are they installing gas in 57-story towers :D
So, I finally had a chance to try evacuation protocol with my cats. It went better than I expected, but there is room for improvement. We had only 1 cat carrier assembled, the documents were in different drawers, and so on. I had a plan for our flat in Russia, in case of a fire - we just pick the cats and go to the roof (we were living on 22 floor out of 24) and just go to another section of the building. Probably need a boltcutter for this, but still, it sounded way easier than moving down with 35 kilograms of cats with you :D
I actually don't have a working plan for this building. We can still get to the roof pretty fast, but only to jump down. And using stairs from 54 floor, while carrying 35kg of cats seems insane. Yep, I just love describing this amount of cats in KGs :D
I think our only option is to train everyone to wear a leash, so they can walk by themselves. Still, sounds quite impossible, but I'll try it, probably.
So, I made three calls to different emergency numbers and they finally send a man with a gas detector to our apartment. There was no leakage and that was a relief. Though I'm still interested in the original reason for that smell. I had to spend the rest of the day in bed due to a headache (partially related to a gas-paint leak, but it was a hard day anyway), listening to some random standups on Netflix. And that is actually the second reason to write this post (the first one - I want to share this cool "evacuation" photo :)).
After all these calls - I had to make a few extra because the repair man forgot his book with all the emergency response reports - and a few hours of audio before sleep, my brain just switched to English. Even the grammar - which I'm trying to improve for the last three months - just aligned in my head in something usable and quite understandable. I've had these switches before, but this time it feels a bit different. So cool 😊
Still, a lot to learn and improve. I suddenly had a lot of problems with English during the last month. I was forgetting the basic words and structures, probably just overloaded myself with grammar. But it's still fascinating how the brain works and decides "Okay, from now on your dreams and thoughts will be in this language".
At some point, I'll follow my wife's example and start learning Japanese. Or Korean. We'll see about this :D
Have a good day.
